Car-boot sales in France

The car boot sale season in Brittany is about to start! Driving through Dinan yesterday, I noticed a sign for Léhon car boot sale, which is taking place this Sunday (7^th March 2010). It is usually the first one in the area.

Car boot sales in French are called Brocantes, Vide-greniers, braderies, or Farfouilles. Similar to the British car boot sales, these places are great if you are looking for a bargain or if you wish to clear some of the items you no longer need. You will find there the usual bric-à-brac, furniture, cloths, antiques, etc. On site there is always a ‘buvette’ where you will find something to eat and drink.

Your local newsagent will have a booklet/diary of all the Vide-greniers in your area. Vide-greniers in France are getting very popular due to the credit crunch. It seems that each village, around Dinan in Brittany, had its own car-boot sale last year!
